Mon. April 4, 2016: Novel Review

Today, the students handed in their reading questions for Of Mice and Men. They then wrote a timed summary to demonstrate that each student read the novel. I then went over what they need to know for the comprehension exam for this novel (they will write on Thursday or Friday at the latest, depending on when we finish the film). I then gave them the assignment to complete after viewing the film which I have pasted below.

Thurs. Mar. 3, 2016: Multiple Choice Practice

Today, students were provided with two readings and multiple choice questions in order to practice their comprehension and process of elimination skills. If you were not here, these are in your portfolio.

Tues. Jan. 19 - Fri. Jan 22, 2016: test prep

On Tuesday, I gave you a breakdown about the exam as well as the essay topic. If you were not here, you will need to get the notes from a classmate.
For the duration of this week, the students will be working on sample multiple choice questions, test prep, and creation of a cheat sheet that is due on Friday. The final exam is on Monday, at 9 am in my class.

Fri. Jan. 15, 2016: Merchant of Venice: film

Today, you watched the first half of The Merchant of Venice. You will finish watching this on Monday.
I will then be prepping you for the final, so commit to being here.

Thurs. Jan. 16, 2016: Merchant of Venice

Today, we read to the end of Act IV. Tomorrow, we should be able to complete Act V.

Wed. Jan. 13, 2016: Merchant of Venice

Today, we read up to Act IV, Scene 1, (page 181, line 64).

Tues. Jan. 12, 2016: Merchant of Venice

Today, we read up to Act III, Scene 2, just at the pint where Portia is telling Bassanio how happy she is that he has chosen her (page 141, line 165).

Mon. Jan. 11, 2016: Merchant of Venice

Today, we read up to Act III, Scene II of The Merchant of Venice (page 130). If you were not here, you need to read up to this point.

Fri. Jan. 8, 2016: Merchant of Venice

Today, students read up to Act II, Scene 7. We will start reading Scene 7 on Monday.

Thurs. Jan. 7, 2016: The Merchant of Venice Act 1

Today, we finished reading Act I or The Merchant of Venice. Tomorrow, we will start Act II (Roles were also assigned).

Wed. Jan. 6, 2016: Merchant of Venice Reading

Today, we began to read The Merchant of Venice. The students also started to create a word glossary.
Some of the words defined while we were reading are as follows:

afeard = afraid
ere = before
't = it
'a = he

We read all of Act 1 scene 1 and much of Act 1 scene 2 (up to page 25, line 64).

Tues. Jan. 5, 2016:

Today, I introduced the Shakespearean play, The Merchant of Venice, using a Powerpoint to explain the plot, themes, main characters and context.
Be sure to bring the play with you to class tomorrow. It must also be noted that you need to be here to really understand this play. If you are not here, you will have to answer questions to ensure understanding.

Mon. Jan. 4, 2015: Poetry Exam

Today, students wrote their poetry exam. The focus was on knowing the terms presented to them at the beginning of the year and then practiced during this unit as well as their reading comprehension skills. Students who were not present will have to see me to write the exam/alternative at lunch.

Students were also instructed to go to the library and sign out the play The Merchant of Venice. If you were not here, be sure to do this.
